Weekend of Science
During the Weekend of Science (Weekend van de Wetenschap) on Sunday October 5th we built robot hands with children, using materials like paper, straws, and string. This allowed them to discover technology in an accesible and fun way. We organized this event in collaboration with Tilburg University Junior. It was a great succes, filled with enthusiasm and fun for both our volunteers and the children!
Beursvloer
On Tuesday October 7th, Serve the City Tilburg was present at the Beursvloer. This is an even where companies and social organizations can meet eachother and talk about how they can help eachother, hopefully finding a match. This year was an extra special edition, since Beursvloer celebrated its 20th anniversary. For this special occassion, Queen Máxima officially opened the event.
On behalf of Serve the City Tilburg, Anouk and Mirthe made two matches. Our first match was with Tilburg University Junior, who sponsored us with €100 to fund our upcoming holiday activities. In exchange, we will organize an activity during Night University Junior, just as we did last year. Our second match was with McDonalds, who will lend us a lemonade stand to use during one of our activities just like they did in previous years. All in all, we consider this edition of the Beursvloer a great success.
IKook
Since this month, the Serve the Grey committee has restarted IKook. The first edition took place on Monday October 27th, when three volunteers of Serve the Grey were present at Community Center de Baselaar to cook and dine together with a group of elderly people. It was a very fun evening, and the committee is looking forward to the next editions of IKook that will take place during the upcoming year!
Constitution drink
On Wednesday October 29th the constitution drink of Board XIII of Serve the City Tilburg took place at Café de Boekanier. During this evening, other boards, committees and other invited guests had the opportunity to congratulate the board on their positions. During the evening, the board was supported by a fantastic team, which can be seen on the picture below. We want to thank them for their efforts, great care, and fun evening!
Everyone truly enjoyed the night. It was amazing to see the great amount of people that took the time and effort to come and congratulate the new board. For this, we want to thank our volunteers, friends, all study-, student-, and sports associations that came by, and most of all Café de Boekanier for this fantastic evening!
Opstart commissies
Since this month, our committees officially started up again. This year, Serve the City Tilburg is proud to announce that no less than five committees have been formed, including one international committee. The committees that have been created this year are: Serve the Brave, Serve the Gentle, Serve the Green, Serve the Grey, and Serve the Wisdom.
Serve the Gentle is a new committee compared to last year. This committee is committed to helping everyone who does not have a home in Tilburg, including refugees and homeless people. Serve the Green is a new committee as well. This committee consists of international volunteers, and focuses on organizing activities surrounding sustainability and the environment.
Most committees have held their first meeting this month, and our committee volunteers have already enthusiastically started organizing activities!
