Activities at the Ukraine refugee shelter

On December 3 and 15, Serve the Gentle once again organized some fun activities at the Ukrainian refugee center. This time, they hosted a game night on December 3rd, and on December 15 they crafted Christmas cards with the children at the shelter. The children could make these Christmas cards for themselves, for family or friends, or for elderly people. The cards made for the elderly were later delivered by volunteers from Serve the Gentle and Serve the Grey. Both activities were very well received and are definitely worth repeating!

Christmas decorations at Boshuis De Wever

Instead of the weekly walks with elderly residents at Boshuis De Wever, several volunteers from Serve the Grey helped set up Christmas trees and hang Christmas decorations on December 9. The volunteers were paired with a resident so they could work together on decorating for Christmas. The morning concluded with a delicious lunch. It was a very enjoyable morning and a nice change from the usual morning walks.

Purple Friday

On Purple Friday, Serve the Wisdom handed out cookies on the campus of Tilburg University, with the aim of raising awareness about Purple Friday. At Serve the City Tilburg, we believe it is important that everyone feels welcome, and a day like Purple Friday plays an essential role in achieving this goal. The volunteers of Serve the Wisdom were able to use the kitchen of T.S.R. Vidar to bake the cookies, for which we would like to thank T.S.R. Vidar. Handing out the cookies was a fun activity and helped make many more people aware of the existence and meaning of Purple Friday. All in all, it was a very successful activity!

Light Route

On December 15, Serve the Grey helped out with the Lichtjestocht at the Reyshoeve with several volunteers. Some volunteers walked along with the route, while others helped prepare the hot chocolate for the closing gathering. It was wonderful to see how many participants attended the Lichtjestocht and how much joy it brought to the residents of the Reyshoeve and their family and friends. After the event, as is annual tradition at the Reyshoeve, the Christmas lights were switched on. The Christmas spirit was definitely strong this year!

Crafting Christmas arrangements

On December 18, volunteers from Serve the Grey and Serve the Brave were present at rehabilitation center Damast to craft Christmas arrangements together with the clients. Just like in previous years, beautiful Christmas arrangements were created. Using the remaining materials, some extra arrangements were made to give to clients who were unable to make one themselves. The volunteers had a great time and are already looking forward to organizing this again next year.

Delivering Christmas cards and cookies

On December 23, Serve the Grey, in collaboration with Serve the Gentle, distributed the cards that were made at the Ukrainian refugee center, together with homemade Christmas cookies, to elderly people. This was done at the Reyshoeve. The cookies and cards were received very positively, and it was a lovely way to connect with the residents.

Oliebollen sale La Trappe

On December 30 and 31, the board of Serve the City Tilburg was once again present at La Trappe for the annual oliebollen sale. They helped with the sale of La Trappe oliebollen, made according to La Trappe’s own recipe using La Trappe Blond beer. For each bag sold, €2.50 was donated to Serve the City Tilburg. We would like to thank La Trappe once again for this opportunity and the wonderful donation that resulted from it!
