SAMbal

On May 1st, the annual SAMbal took place once again in collaboration with Fractie SAM, this time hosted at T.S.V. Plato. This year’s theme was ‘Masks on’, allowing visitors to complete their outfits with a mask. This amazing evening successfully raised an amount of €230 for Serve the City Tilburg. We would therefore like to thank T.S.V. Plato for providing the venue and taking care of the great music. In addition, we naturally want to thank Fractie SAM for the wonderful collaboration, and for the fantastic amount they raised for Serve the City Tilburg through this event!

Baking pancakes at Villa Pardoes

On May 7th, Serve the Brave visited Villa Pardoes to bake pancakes. They were first given a guided tour and then went on to make a huge amount of pancakes. It was truly beautiful to see what Villa Pardoes does for these families with seriously ill children, and all in all, it was a very fun activity!

Night University

Once again this year, we were present at Night University with no fewer than two activities. During Night University Junior, we organized the ‘Spooky bunting’ activity. Children could craft their own flags based on excerpts from several books by Paul van Loon. With these, they could enter a giveaway: the first prize won two books by Paul van Loon, and the second prize won one book. The activity was enthusiastically received by the children, and we turned it into a very fun afternoon!

In addition, we organized a lecture during Night University in collaboration with Complex, featuring Petra Wijen as the guest speaker. Petra Wijen is a relationship therapist who specializes in couples where one or both partners have a busy career. During the lecture, she shared insights from her experiences in the field and discussed how behavioral patterns can influence relationships. The lecture was followed by a Q&A session where the audience could ask questions. The lecture was highly attended, and it was certainly a successful activity!

Music bingo at Villa Maria

Just like last year, Serve the Grey organized a live music bingo at Villa Maria. This year, they did so in collaboration with Student Volleyball Association Gepidae. Together with a few members of Gepidae, they curated a playlist, created bingo cards, and arranged fun little prizes. Additionally, two musicians from Gepidae came to provide the music with vocals and guitar. The residents absolutely loved it, many of them sang along with the songs, and some even danced for a bit. This activity is definitely worth repeating again next year!

Activities at the Ukraine shelter

Once again this month, Serve the Gentle organized many activities for Ukrainian refugees. This month, they crafted cards for Mother’s Day and hosted a movie screening. As always, the children were highly enthusiastic, and everyone had a wonderful time on both occasions!

Playing games at the Hazelaar

On May 20th, Serve the Brave organized a games afternoon at De Hazelaar. The clients are mostly elderly, and they thoroughly enjoyed the games and the lovely conversations with each other and our volunteers. The organization has let us know that they are happy the collaboration has been resumed, and they look forward to working together further in the future.

Playing games at the Reyshoeve

On May 20th, Serve the Grey also organized a games afternoon, namely at De Reyshoeve, a location of De Wever. They did this on the ‘TUC for Tilburg’ day by the TUC. On this day, students could sign up to do volunteer work somewhere, and as a result, 18 students were present to help with the games afternoon. This allowed us to set it up on a very large scale, and many elderly residents from different departments were able to participate. Everything went extremely well and is definitely worth repeating. We would therefore like to thank TUC for the collaboration, and for the successful activity that we were able to organize thanks to their volunteers!

Campustour with Stichting Met je Hart

On May 21st, Serve the Grey organized the second edition of the campus tour with Stichting Met je Hart Goirle-Riel. This time, we had lunch beforehand at restaurant Mensa on the Tilburg University campus. Afterwards, they once again gave a wonderful tour of the campus, sharing details about the history and current purpose of each building. Just like last time, it was highly successful, and we look forward to the next edition next year!

Serve the Lunch with T.S.V. Plato

On May 28th, Serve the Grey organized a lunch for the elderly in collaboration with Student Association Plato. They transformed Plato into a cozy lunch spot and provided a delicious lunch, after which the elderly residents were given a short guided tour. Elderly guests from Stichting Met je Hart Tilburg and Goirle-Riel were present, and together they turned it into a super cozy afternoon. We would therefore like to thank T.S.V. Plato for the wonderful collaboration, and hope that this activity can be repeated in the coming years!
