Activities Last Week of June

Written by: Ashley van den Adel

The last week of June has been a busy week for us, but we are only happy about that!

On Wednesday 23 June, Serve the Brave distributed packages to residents of the ASVZ houses in Tilburg. ASVZ offers housing for people with intellectual disabilities; young, old, mildly and severely mentally disabled. We have filled crates with delicacies from all over the Netherlands: Limburg pie, Brabant sausage rolls, Zeeland babblers and apple juice, Hague hops, Fries sugar bread and much more! Because going out on a trip has been difficult lately, we hoped to bring the trips to the residents themselves! We have made a lot of people smile again.

Serve the Grey organized a bingo for the elderly of the Kievitshorst on Friday 25 June. The elderly received some help from the committee members and were able to win several prizes. The gifts to be won were, among other things, a bottle of ‘advocaat’, tea packages or delicious chocolates. The residents had a very nice afternoon!

Together with Amnesty International Tilburg, Serve the Homeless organized an interesting lecture, in which human rights activist Mojalifa Mokoele from Zimbabwe came to tell something about his life. He also talked about his work for the Sexual Rights Center as Program Manager, Shelter City and how he sees activism. This lecture took place online on Monday 28 June, where attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions themselves! It was a very interesting and educational evening. On Wednesday 30 June, Serve the Green organized a green walking tour through Tilburg in collaboration with the Vegan Student Association Tilburg. During this tour you passed various sustainable and vegan shops in Tilburg, such as: Ekoplaza, Focus Foodbar, Dille & Kamille, the Wereldwinkel, Foodatelier and at last Stoom013. At every stop we received a sustainable goody bag or we could taste something from the vegan kitchen. It was a very successful afternoon and we are glad that everyone enjoyed it so much!
