Dear All.
My name is Benthe Frie and this year I am the secretary of Serve the City Tilburg. I am currently a third-year Liberal Arts and Sciences student specializing in international law. Being a secretary mainly involves contact with the volunteers, but I think its is fair to say that it is one of the most diverse positions within the board. The many small tasks such as writing the newsletter, taking minutes and organizing volunteer days make the position a very challenging but above all a very interesting activity. I chose this position because I think it is important to put knowledge and skills into practice and to prepare myself for possible work in the future.
Within Serve the City I am also the coordinator of Serve the Brave, this committee organizes activities for the chronically ill and mentally and physically disabled. The target group that we serve with this committee is one that is for many students a group that they’ve had contact with before. My goal is to make this target group more visible and to show people what is possible with a handicap, instead of looking at limitations. An example of an activity that we are organizing this year is a gala with the mentally disabled. Small activities such as a wheelchair sport clinic or an afternoon in a hospital are also on our calendar. Everything in this committee was created entirely by the committee members themselves, and in this way everyone gives input to the activities that we do this year in their own way.
Fortunately, we have a lot of students this year who want to participate for a better Tilburg. However, that does not mean that we are full or no longer allow new volunteers. We have a place for everyone and we think it is important that as many students as possible come into contact with this rewarding work. So are you interested or do you want more information?
